Going to be tough seeing Gaudreau wearing blue. I know a lot of fans want to blame Gaudreau for how things turned out, but I think the Flames are the most at fault. By all accounts, both Gaudreau and Tkachuk would've signed long-term, but the Flames weren't all that interested until this offseason.

Both had the chance to be the greatest Flame ever and would've had their jerseys in the rafters.

Agreed 100%. Just needed to get them signed a year or two earlier. Tkachuk admitted he was ready to go eight years prior to signing his three year deal. Gaudreau was seeking eight years prior to his big season. His parents said he got an insultingly low offer the year before and that stuck in his mind a bit.

That said, Johnny wasn’t dominant in the COVID season. Wonder what the offer was.

I imagine it would be something like they'd just keep him at 6.75 for 8 more years, maybe bump it to 7. I wouldn't call anything over 7.5 insulting after the two seasons he was coming off of. Maybe they didn't want to do 8 years.

I think the Covid lockdowns had a lot to do with it as well. Sucks being stuck in a country that is not your own.

I doubt it was a major factor. If you believe his parents, he was willing to extend before last season, which was right after the actual lockdown seasons.

They obviously didn't get there, but if they had spent their entire careers in Calgary and won a Cup, they'd absolutely be in the conversation. Gaudreau likely would've been first or second in every category that mattered, and then Tkachuk had a shot to be first in everything and probably would've been the captain if he was here long-term.

Iginla wasn't the captain until he was 26, and he's the only one in the conversation right now and didn't win a Cup or retire a Flame.

Your not really a fan of the flames are you ?
Your basing them being the greatest on if ? Or individual stuff like points ? Lol and better than guys like Lanny , or gillmour , or in my opinion the best ever is a toss up of Fleury or Iggy !

The Flames missed the playoffs in 2020/21 and Johnnys stat line was as follows:
GP56, G19, A30, PTS 49
Not horrible but not break the bank numbers so not sure what you wanted Tre to do Hunkulese?

Boo hoo hoo! Poor Johnny! Take some responsibility for not getting the offer you felt entitled to.

Tkachuk was never going to stay, he wanted more than he was worth at the time. Basically handcuffed the Flames in the last negations, he should pay his agent for getting him out of the Great White North.

Not old enough to remember all the great players of the 80’s! Lots of great Flames from that decade.
Johnny would have a hard time playing in the league, when men were men. Jeeze I miss those games.

The organization and city treated him like royalty and 8 x 10.5 was still not good enough for him and his mom and dad. BA BYE Johnny and glad to hear you love it in Columbus even though the team is 8, 15 & 2 and 1 point out of the basement.

So according to some from the last blog, if Phillips only gets 5-6 minutes of icetime, is that enough to score his first goal?

Maybe go back and read what I wrote. It's an inarguable fact that they had a chance to be the greatest. Nothing individual about winning a Cup.

It only took one practice for Sutter to give up on Phillips. Shocker.

In order to give up on someone, you have to give them a chance. That hasn't happened yet.

Markstrom really (frank)ing sucks, couldn't stop a beach ball, what a waste of cap space for an over the hill goalie.
